(More customer reviews)I bought the smaller version of this Manfrotto monopod a few years ago and it came very very close to being what I needed.I bought a bunch of other monopods looking for one that had everything, but kept coming up short.I bought a really TALL monopod, but it was heavy, used screw tightening leg locks and didn't allow me to pan smoothly in any direction.I then bought a Manfrotto tripod which works great but it's HEAVY and I need to keep things relatively light.
I searched and searched for a solution and then I found it.It was the big brother of my smaller Manfrotto Monopod 560B-1 and I love that one.Now that I have the 561BHDV, it's the only thing I use.
I have the Panasonic TM700K camcorder and it's got great anti-shake capability. So good, in fact, that I can get results comparable to a tripod using this monopod.Actually it's better because you still get a tiny amount of camera movement which gives your shots that popular "reality show" feel.If you want a completely steady shot, just lean against something nearby.
I shoot lots of bands and this monopod gets above EVERYONE'S head. The height is an amazing plus.Someone of average height will be able to shoot way above their head and over the heads of everyone else as well.Adjust the screen on your camera so that it's pointing down, look up and shoot away. The fluid damped fold down "feet" are the perfect solution. They're small so they don't get in the way, but they really help to stabilize the monopod.
The fluid damping is the best thing about this monopod. You'll be able to pan using the fluid damped base, and the head has fluid damped vertical tilt. With a little practice you'll be able to do everything you could on a tripod.
My Tip:Practice keeping the monopod straight up and down so that when you pan, the horizon will stay level.
This monopod and my camera are all I need to produce very professional results in almost every situation.I've attached a shoulder strap to it so I can sling it across my back and take it on my bicycle or motorbike.Definitely recommended!
